From 31 March to 1 April 2009, the first COE Ad-hoc Coordination Meeting was held at the JCBRN Defence COE, Vyškov.

Ten delegates from 3 COEs (Military Medical COE, Explosive Ordnance Disposal COE; COE for Operations in Confined and Shallow Waters; the Joint Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence COE) and two representatives of HQ SACT (NATO HQs for Transformation) participated in the meeting.

The agenda of the meeting was threefold:

n      COE Involvement in NRF and NATO Operations and the Legal Aspects of COEs Involvement

n      COE Representation in NATO Working Groups

n      Lesson Learned Process

ACT representative NRF IPT Deputy Leader Cdr Douglas McDonald briefed the members of the COEs on the “Aspirational Capabilities for NRF”.

This was the first meeting of its kind and inspired lively discussions, identifying several areas of common interest. A follow-on meeting would be of benefit with wider participation and longer invitations and identification of issues of common interest. JCBRN Defence COE plans to continue such activities.
