The I-RAPTER Advanced Course (MWD-CD-31766 International Radiological Assistance Program Training for Emergency Response) was organized for the first time since in offer by the Joint CBRN Defence Centre of Excellence and US Department of Energy National (DOE) Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The course was held from 7 until 10 November 2016.

The aim of the course was to provide practical information to effectively respond to radiological incidents and accidents. The course built on the basic I-RATER course by providing responders, law enforcement officers, radiation protection specialists, port and customs officials, and emergency managers with advanced techniques for radiological search and identification.

Eighteen course participants (from CZE, ESP, HUN, ITA, POL and COE), members of armed forces, fire brigade units and police, enjoyed a mix of theoretical lessons, practical activities and exercises. Radiological material identification exercises were conducted in cooperation with CZE University of Defence (CBRN Defence Institute / Radiological Laboratory) and Air Museum in Vyskov.

The performance of NNSA instructors (Mr. Henry ADAMS, Mr. Nate HOTELING, Mr. Mike TAYLOR and Mr. Kevin ROLFE) was very professional and highly appreciated by all students. They shared their experience with students, conducted well prepared activities and were engaged in interesting discussions.

The course was evaluated by the students as very useful with great added value for their carrier’s development.

Next iterations are planned for 9-12 May 2017 (WMD-CD-21765 I-RAPTER Basic) and 6-9 November 2017 (WMD-CD-31766 I-RAPTER Advanced). Moreover, there are other courses offered by JCBRN COE and NNSA:
- WMD-CD-31768 International Radiological Consequence Management Training Course
