From 24 to 27 April, the CBRNe Summit Europe 2017, chaired by the President of the Observatory on Security and CBRNe Defence (OSDIFE), Professor Roberto Mugavero, has taken place in Madrid. This summit has been the sixth in a series, which had been initiated in 2014 by OSDIFE and the Joint CBRN Defence Centre of Excellence as founding fathers. Former summits have already taken place in Brno (CZE), Roma (ITA), Singapore (SGP), Paris (FRA) and Hà Nội (VNM).

The CBRNe Summit series aims at bringing together CBRNe experts from all over the world, in particular from North-America, Europe and Asia, for networking and high level information exchange and for integrating military, civilian and commercial actors in the field of CBRN Defence.

As usual, our Centre provided a keynote speech: The Deputy Director, COL (DEU-A) Volker R. Quante underlined the importance of strengthening European co-operation in order to cope with the increasing risks and challenges arising from weapons of mass destruction, chemical, biological and radiological warfare agents and their proliferation.
A workshop dealing with CBRN forensics and a site visit, during which the ESP Medical Brigade presented its capabilities for treating contaminated patients, completed the summit’s programme.
More than 100 participants joined the event, more than a dozen exhibitors presented their capabilities, and many universities and other scientific bodies supported the summit providing high level expertise and presentations.
