Internship

Emma de Mos Internship experience

From September 2024 to March 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at the JCBRN Defence COE in Vyškov. During this time, I conducted research on the impact of modern information dissemination on the spread of misinformation and disinformation during CBRN incidents. My work focused on analysing the role of social media and other online platforms, using past case studies to explore different narratives, patterns, and responses.

Beyond research, I had the chance to observe various courses and attend conferences, gaining insights from both in-house and external experts in the field. Furthermore, I got the opportunity to participate in the Consequence Management Course, where I deepened my understanding of different CBRN threats and response strategies through both theoretical lectures and scenario-based exercises. Collaborating with experts during exercises also allowed me to apply my knowledge in a practical setting and broaden my perspective on CBRN defence. Attending these courses and conferences also allowed me to network with professionals from different backgrounds, further enriching my understanding of international approaches to CBRN challenges.

This experience has been invaluable for my personal and professional growth. I was able to work alongside experienced professionals, learning from their expertise while also developing my own analytical and communication skills. Additionally, I was able to further my knowledge of CBRN-related subjects. The COE provided a welcoming environment where I felt supported not only in my research but also in daily interactions, whether it was discussions about my research or conversations during coffee breaks. I am truly grateful for my time at the JCBRN Defence COE and for everyone who made this experience so enriching. I want to thank everyone for all their kindness, guidance, and support throughout my internship.
