I-RAPTER Advanced International Radiological Assistance Program Training for Emergency Response Course
The course builds on the basic I-RATER course by providing responders, law enforcement officers, radiation protection specialists, port and customs officials, and emergency managers with advanced techniques for radiological search and identification.
Learning Objective:
The course contains a half day review of radiation properties and health effects, radiological hazards and radiological detectors and then focus on advanced radiological search techniques, radionuclide identification including gamma-ray spectroscopy, maritime and aerial search techniques, contamination survey, and source recovery. Incorporated in the lectures are radiation detection equipment demonstrations and hands-on training with a wide range of radiation detection instrumentation the training team brings to the course. Students practice the information they learn in the classroom lectures, equipment demonstrations and hands-on equipment training in a full day field exercise conducted with radiation sources.
Expected Training Audience:
This course is designed for emergency response personnel that have taken the basic I-RAPTER course or have an intermediate to advanced level of experience in radiological emergency response.
