As well as in the last year, the JCBRN Defence COE representatives took part in an annual multinational exercise “Toxic Valley 2016” (TOVY 2016). This two weeks exercise is organized by the Slovak Armed Forces in the CBRN Training and Testing Centre located in Zemianske Kostolany. The aim of this exercise is to train and evaluate Sampling and Identification of Chemical Warfare Agents/Toxic Industrial Materials (SICA) capabilities in accordance with new NATO publication AEP-66.

The Allied Command Transformation organized the Strategic Foresight Analysis (SFA) and Framework for Future Alliance Operations (FFAO) joint workshop at the Joint Force Training Centre (JFTC) in Bydgoszcz, Poland 26-30 September 2016. JCBRN Defence CoE representatives from the Transformation Support Department have supported the workshop from its inception.

The Joint Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defence Centre of Excellence celebrated the 10th anniversary of its establishment on Monday, 17th October 2016. Officially established on 26th October 2006, the Centre held the festivities in early October in conjunction with the semi-annual Steering Committee meeting in order to take advantage of the unique opportunity to have all twelve Sponsoring Nations and the Contributing Partner present.

»TOXIC TRIP« (TOTP) is NATO Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Defence in Air Operations Exercise, designed to improve interoperability amongst NATO, Partnership for Peace (PfP), Mediterranean Dialogue (MD) nations and NATO Partners across the Globe through multinational exercise scenarios, demonstrations and information exchange.

TOXIC TRIP exercises are organized annually by NATO CBRN Defence Capability Development Group (CBRN CDG) / Training and Exercise Panel (TEP) / Working Team 3 (Air Force) (WT3). The TOTP16 exercise was held at ANTALYA Air Force Base (AFB), TUR, from 15 – 22 October 2016. There were 385 participants from 11 NATO countries (BEL, CAN, DEU, FRA, GBR, ITA, NLD, NOR, POL, SVN, TUR), 4 partner countries (AUT, FYROM¹, NZL, SWE) and 1 NATO organization (Joint CBRN Defence Centre of Excellence).

 

The I-RAPTER Advanced Course (MWD-CD-31766 International Radiological Assistance Program Training for Emergency Response) was organized for the first time since in offer by the Joint CBRN Defence Centre of Excellence and US Department of Energy National (DOE) Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The course was held from 7 until 10 November 2016.

The aim of the course was to provide practical information to effectively respond to radiological incidents and accidents. The course built on the basic I-RATER course by providing responders, law enforcement officers, radiation protection specialists, port and customs officials, and emergency managers with advanced techniques for radiological search and identification.
